The Bob Jones boys’ soccer team has always been a top contender in the state, but this year has been especially impressive, since the boys started the season with no losses, earning them the incredible #2 rank in the state. One of their keys to success is the dominating figure of 6’4” senior forward, Eduvie Ikoba.

“Eduvie is a great leader on the field not only in words but with [his] actions too,” Ikoba’s fellow senior teammate Quentin Boric said. “He constantly pushes others to be the best they can be to improve.”

The boys’ coach, Uwe Spiller, also mentioned Eduvie’s prominent impact on the field. Along with estimating that Eduvie scores an impressive 80% of the teams’ goals, Uwe also said Ikoba is “the overall most developed/gifted player” he has seen in Alabama.

Eduvie’s success and strength did not come to him overnight – he’s been playing soccer for 14 years and always had high hopes for his future.

“I’ve always wanted to play in college,” Eduvie said. This dream of his came true this past year when he committed to Dartmouth University to play soccer. “I chose Dartmouth because they’re ranked Top 25 in soccer and Top 10 in academics. I feel incredibly lucky to have this opportunity.”

Although already an accomplished player, Ikoba still has goals to achieve before attending Dartmouth in the fall, mainly leading his team to a state championship. “If we stay focused, there’s no reason we couldn’t win,” Ikoba said.Quentin agreed, mentioning that he feels this year the team has an unmatched unity that can lead them to a state title.

“Eduvie is more mature this year and even more effective on goal,” Coach Uwe said, “but still has a long way to go.”
