This past weekend, a few talented student artists were honored at the Huntsville Museum of art. Works by Samantha Humphrey and Michael McGinley are hanging up at the museum to celebrate Youth Art Month.  Along with them, Lauren Pennington and Katherine Rogers received blue ribbons for Visual Art Achievement sponsored by the Alabama State Council for the Arts.

Lauren Pennington said, “I was really surprised when Mrs. Lakso called me and told me about it. There were so many entries, I didn’t think mine had that big of a chance of getting placed there.” Lauren is currently taking AP Art and has been a part of the Bob Jones art program since her freshman year.

Samantha Humphrey is taking AP Art and is the Treasurer of  Bob Jones’ chapter of National Art Honor Society. Her art was the product of a lot of collaboration between Mrs. Lakso, Bob Jones’ art teacher, and her fellow classmates. This honor came as a delightful surprise, she stated, “I was thrilled! I had no idea that I would even get close to winning.”

To keep the awards rolling, Claudia Waddell received an honorable mention for the Congressional Art Competition (CAC). This competition decided what will hang at the US Capitol Building in Washington, D.C. Claudia’s response to the news was, “I was very surprised. I had to work a lot faster than I normally do in order to finish my piece by the contest’s deadline, so I wasn’t really expecting anything to happen.”

The students’ art is currently on display at the Huntsville Museum of Art.
