A Note Above the Others

There are some big things in store for the Bob Jones Patriot Singers. On March 28 they swept the floor with the competition at The Fellowship of Two Rivers Church, winning first place and a Gold ranking in Women’s and Men’s Choir, along with tying for first for Mixed Choir. They also won the Adjudicator’s Award, the highest award given.

Joey Caldwell, a Senior at Bob Jones and a Tenor 1 in choir, described the competition as “energetic.”

“Choirs of all sizes and voice parts were on stage and putting all their talent into two or three pieces,” Caldwell says. “It was a little intimidating, but we weren’t phased.”

The Singers had been working for months, even since the previous semester, for Nationals, sharpening their voices to the perfect tune. Junior Leah Boyd, Soprano and Vice President of the Patriot Singers, said, “There isn’t an uncommitted or untalented person in the Patriot Singers! It was amazing to win, and all of that hard work has been incredibly rewarding.”

Both Caldwell and Boyd agree that being in the Patriot Singers is an amazing experience, and they love it, win or lose.

The Bob Jones Patriot Singers will be participating in the All-State Choral Festival being held at Samford University in Birmingham from April 9th through the 11th. They’ll also have a combined performance with the Bob Jones Concert Band, playing Claude T. Smith’s “God of Our Father’s.” They’ve even been invited to play overseas and at Carnegie Hall, a true accomplishment for our Patriot Singers.
