Cabela’s: A Grand Grand Opening

Noah Vermillion, Writer

On September 30, 2015 Cabela’s opened in Huntsville. Cabela’s is an outdoor store along the lines of Gander Mountain and Bass Pro Shop.  This Cabela’s is huge, and it has an indoor archery range, aquarium, and even a place to buy fudge.

During the grand opening, they had live music and they did tons of giveaways like hats, cups, stickers, cup holders, and even guns.  If you were the first 500 people in line, you got a free $15 gift card. The first person to get in line got a $500 gift card.   Needless to say, the parking lot was packed with thousands of people.  I waited in line for about an hour before getting inside.  I won a raffle, but it was just a CD of one of the live performers.  Better than nothing!

Cabela’s has tons of employees that are very helpful. I got asked multiple times while shopping if I needed any help.  Victoria, an employee in the camping department, said that you have to be 19 to work at Cabella’s.  Victoria also added that the “archery and hunting sections would be most popular with high school students.”  She also felt that Huntsville needed a Cabela’s because the residents like to “fish, hunt, and do outdoor activities.”

While there, I bought a tackle box and fishing lures.  The prices were comparable to other places that sell the same stuff.  I would go back to Cabela’s because even though I waited for an hour and was in the store for about that long, I never made it to see all the different departments.

Once the crowds die down, Cabela’s will be a place all the outdoorsy people at Bob Jones will like.
