The Bob Jones competition Band has another upcoming event with the Music City Invitational in Nashville, TN. The doors open on Saturday October 24 at 7:30 am in the McGavock High School stadium. The band is in the AAAA class, the highest class of four with 7 other bands in the grouping. Bob Jones competition show is the last band to compete at 3:45 p.m.

The songs the band will be playing are: Eine Kleine Nachtmusik, Rhapsody in Blue/Bohemian Rhapsody, Adagio/Chandelier. All with advanced marching techniques  and many visuals.

The BJHS Band has a reputation of excellence as Football band member Jessie Sloan said, “It has a history of doing well” when referring to the band and it’s next contest. Earlier this year, they achieved over all grand champions in Henderson TN and received all superior on their last competition. In past years the band has also been known for doing well, in the 2013-14 year the marching band won grand champions at the Outback Bowl.

Freshman student, Casey Kula, commented on the band member’s relationships with each other saying, “They work well together and practice a lot. They’re like a family.” Another senior student who has been in band for all her high school career also agrees that band is like a family. “I think it’s very accurate considering we spend so much time together. We grow closer as a band just like a family grows closer,” said Juliette Gurganios.

While being asked about the competition band’s readiness during lunch, Savannah Plume explained, “I think they do well, because they’re always prepared.” The band does prepare for all their shows. Back in July there was two weeks of band camp where the band practiced marching methods. Using their precious summer time to spend outside in the hot scorching sun. Also on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays the competition band uses their field after school to prepare as well as marching during their class time.

Clarinet section leader Juliette Gurganois also adds, “I look forward to the competition. I think we’ll do pretty well. Um yeah… I think we’re looking forward to it.”

Anyone can see what the band is doing though their twitter and Facebook page. So don’t miss their next competition the Music City Invitational.
