Taylor Swift is unraveling her new album, Reputation, three years after she released her album 1989 which won the “Album of the Year” in 2016. According to billboard.com, this singer and songwriter will be releasing her new album, Reputation, on November 10, 2017.

Many of her “Swiftie” fans are excited to hear her newest songs. They’ve been taking hints through Swift’s “snake-related teasers.” Although many of her fans may be excited, others could care less. In a survey conducted between students at Bob Jones, 71.4% of students are actually not looking forward to her new album.

Taylor’s first single of the album, “Look What You Made Me Do,” received almost half a billion views on YouTube in just one month, showing the popularity of her new music. In the survey taken between Bob Jones students, 71.4% thought that her new song was actually alright, while 28.6% just had no opinion. This song was also a new style and technique for Taylor. In her YouTube biography, it mentioned that her “catchy, yet deeply personal, self-penned songs transcend[s] music genres.”

Although, not everyone agrees with her music genres. After listening to Taylor’s new song, Bob Jones students, Serena Davis and Sherry Lee, wish that Taylor would simply “make better music,” either through changing the genres or tune.

Bob Jones students even offered some specific suggestions for Taylor to take into consideration while writing songs in the future.

Casey Kula hoped that “in the future she does more relatable songs.” She feels like most of her past songs have had “a weak meaning” and that the majority of the population may not be able to relate to it.

Senior Gabriel Almin hopes that Taylor may consider writing some more classical-themed songs, while Junior Deborah Sheng wishes that Taylor would go back to writing country music. It appears as though Taylor won’t be playing with the past anymore, since she says her past self is “dead” as mentioned in her new song “Look What You Made Me Do.”

The second song from her album is titled “Are You Ready For It?” Although the music video is not released it yet, she published the audio on her Youtube channel.

There are many different reasons for why Taylor decided to write these songs.

Hailey Neal, a senior at Bob Jones, said, “I liked her new album and songs, although I love her old songs a lot better than her new songs and I hope she goes back to her country music roots.”

She believes Taylor “was inspired by her feuds with Katy Perry and Kanye West.”

Whether or not Taylor’s new album is inspired by her fellow American singers/songwriters, her songs and videos are building the musical culture in America.
