Seven Hours at Freddys: A Security Breach Review

Five Nights at Freddy’s: Security Breach, developed by Steel Wool Studios, came out December 2021, as the 10th main game in the Five Nights at Freddy’s series. Many people who played the game or watched a play-through enjoyed the game but were disappointed with how it turned out saying that the game felt unfinished and that there were many bugs and glitches.

In the game, you play as Gregory, a child that was locked in Freddy Fazbear’s Mega Pizzaplex after it was closed for the night. Then, with the help of Freddy Fazbear, you have to try to survive until 6:00 A.M. all while being hunted by Glamrock Chica, Roxanne Wolf, Montgomery Gator, and the security guard Vanessa. Also, someone who rarely shows up is Vanny, a woman in a rabbit costume. There are six endings for the game depending on what decisions you make. For example, there is one where you escape the Pizzaplex with Freddy and another where you “disassemble” the mysterious glitchy rabbit costume-wearing Vanny. Unfortunately, the main storyline seems to have drastically changed compared to the first few trailers that were released. Further proof of that change are the unused sections of the map, unused voice lines from the trailer, and the impossible to get level 10 security pass.

Despite the problems with the story, players said they liked the new characters and their designs. Some fan favorites were Sun, Glamrock Freddy, and MapBot. Along with the return of Freddy and Chica, there were many new characters added and some old characters removed, such as Foxy and Bonnie, which some were disappointed about. About one of the missing characters, Brodey Borden said, “THEY TOOK AWAY FOXY THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE!” The large Pizzaplex did have art and references of said missing characters, though. Players did like the massive free roam map they had to explore, which is a new aspect to the Five Nights at Freddy’s game series. The Mega Pizzaplex was very detailed, and as Emily Duong remarked, “The graphics were super cool, mixing the old of the previous pizzerias with a funky, sci-fi kind of vibe.” However, some aspects of the design left more to be desired.

A part of the game that players either found funny, annoying, or even both, was the many, many bugs. From two Freddys showing up in a single scene to Monty sliding across the floor doing a T-pose, there were a lot of glitches. Some made the game more enjoyable, just because of their comedic effect, and others made the game unfair and frustrating to play. Some glitches even made the gameplay so broken, that players had to restart the game, setting them back at their most recent save-point, however far back it may be.

Looking at the game from the outside, it looks to be a fun adventurous new step for the series, but in reality, it was rushed, unfinished, and, overall, poorly executed. Steel Wool Studios leaves its audience disappointed and wanting more.
