Starting April 12th and going until about mid-November, the Madison City Farmers Market sets up its various stands. Products range from fresh produce and baked goods to soaps and jewelry. Located off the Trinity Baptist Church parking lot, two rows make up this bustling little market that attracts dozens of Madison residents. Stands begin selling at eight sharp and close at twelve. Nothing is allowed to be sold until the clock is right on the dot, so don’t try and get in early. If the weather causes you to be hesitant about a visit, ignore it! Unless the conditions are extreme, the market will open whether it’s raining or shining!
I visited the farmers market last Saturday and it did not disappoint at all! The market contains so many different products, not just the typical fruits and vegetables that everyone thinks of when farmers’ markets are brought up. I saw stands selling homemade soaps that smelled absolutely divine. I saw beautifully assembled bouquets and vibrant, potted flowers. What also stood out to me was the live music being played in the heart of the stands. A woman was setting up a guitar as I walked up and down the rows, and I thought it was so heartwarming to see such a wonderful talent on display. I also got to try a sample of homemade macarons that tasted AMAZING! Baked goods were abundant, and I wish I could’ve brought all of them home.
One of the most peculiar stands I saw was for the business Fungalicious. This appropriately named stand is home to a variety of mushrooms. The mushrooms came in all sorts of styles. They had fresh mushrooms, mushroom powder, and even mushroom jerky! This is just one example of the many great, fresh products offered.
I ended up leaving with an overflowing bucket of sweet, sweet strawberries for my sisters and I, and a beautiful hanging flower pot for my mom! I was also eyeing some homemade jewelry, so I may just have to take another trip there! Next time you have a free Saturday morning, I recommend making a stop at the farmers market and taking a peek at the many offerings. You surely won’t regret it!
