Do you remember your first bicycle and the freedom of riding beyond the confines of your driveway?
Many children in our area depend on generous donations from random, kind strangers in order to have this experience. Mojo, a radio personality on WZYP, does his part to help underprivileged children get a new bicycle for Christmas.
Sitting atop a raised platform on the side of Memorial Parkway for 4 1/2 days seems extreme, but it gets results. According to Chris Welch of The Huntsville Times, Mojo’s publicity stunt is a key factor in gathering 1,500 bikes each year. The Marines and various service organizations also help with the success of the event.
Children’s bikes are not as expensive as you might think. This bike only costs $50.
This would be a great time to do something nice with a group of friends or with your service club. Pool together the change in the bottom of your purse or under the seats of your car and help Mojo and the Marines reach their goal of 1500 bikes.
The last day to donate a bike is Monday, Nov. 26.
