Christmas is almost here, with the last minute shopping for presents, the Christmas tree being put up, and of course the Christmas decorations transforming the yard, all which make the perfect Christmas vision.
Except for a neighborhood in San Antonio, Texas, where a man pulled over to steal Christmas decorations from someone’s yard. Luckily, the owner had surveillance cameras set around her house and caught the burglar on camera in the front lawn. “That guy was probably drunk and trying to be funny,” said senior Sofia Sandstrom.
Meanwhile, the Kim family has already decorated their house this season. Hyun Kim, a senior from Bob Jones is very confused on the crook’s motivation: “Why is he stealing the decorations? I guess it’s nice he wants to get in the holiday mood, but stealing is a big no-no. It just ruins his neighbors’ holiday spirit. I highly doubt it’ll happen in my neighborhood. Everyone has their decorations up already.”
Recently, Mrs. Dauma, an English teacher, came to school to find a nativity set in her classroom. WAFF’s Nick Lough covered the story here. Though most likely done in jest, the vandals might not have realized how much Christmas decor costs or the sentimental value that some people place on their Christmas traditions. Thankfully, the items were returned to their rightful owners with no damage after receiving media attention.
As Christmas approaches, things get hectic and stressful for many people. With the economy struggling, Christmas is the opportune moment for theft. Remember to be mindful of your own possessions and to be respectful of other people’s property.
