Multitasking is the act of doing multiple things at once. Sounds convenient, huh?
Teens usually think they are especially proficient at multitasking as it would seem. We text while walking, listen to music while studying, and watch TV while eating, but it seems like multitasking isn’t the best idea when working.
Hannah Forrest said, “I have my laptop and my phone nearby at all times. I usually doing some combination of studying, texting, watching Youtube, and eating.”
Studies by Stanford University have shown that if one were to multitask, then their full focus would never be at full capacity. Multitaskers were also unable to process relevant information and separating it from irrelevant information and were worse at “mental organization.”
“I fell down the stairwell trying to walk and text,” said Ingrid Hickey. “I still have the bruise.”
Solutions to multitasking would permit one to place their full attention on one task and work on getting that done instead of mixing it in with several other tasks.
Self-proclaimed multitasker, William Hildreth had this to say on the matter: “I don’t really see how this is such a bad thing. I do it all the time, and I’m fine.”
