Construction on the Old Madison Pike bridge began in November 2013, the section between Slaughter Road and Jan Davis Road closed for construction on the new Old Madison Pike bridge. Construction officials worked on this project for longer than a year. There were multiple delays due to utility location and weather that winter. This project, costing 5.2 million dollars, included sidewalks, widening of the lanes, a four-lane expansion, and—very importantly—a new bridge.

This new bridge will benefit the residents of Madison, Madison County, and Huntsville.  It makes it easier to get to Research Park and to Bridgestreet.

The students that take this route are pleased with the result. “It was weird. It has so much space,” a Tariq Burris, a Bob Jones High School Student described. Many students who live in that area agreed with this statement.

Some think that it shouldn’t have taken as long as it did, but the end result was one that they greatly enjoy.
