Bob Jones Celebrates Mardi Gras

In French cultures around the world, Mardi Gras is a time for parades and parties, and though a little more tame, Bob Jones still retains that Mardi Gras spirit. “I enjoy letting the students experience the food and the culture and just get a little bit of a brain break from the vocabulary and grammar,” said French teacher Mrs. Angela Mooney. She hosts an annual party in her class where students are encouraged to bring food and dress up in the signature purple, green, and gold of Mardi Gras, and likes to see the different things the students do to celebrate. Senior Sammy Spivey enjoyed the festivities, especially since they hold a special significance for her and her family. “Mardi Gras is really interesting. My family…is from Louisiana, so when I was younger, we got to go down there to celebrate Mardi Gras.” Learning a foreign language can come with some unexpected perks, but not to worry, the students were hard at work again the following day!
