Last Tuesday, Bob Jones hosted a home softball game against Decatur’s Austin High Black Bears. Our Lady Patriot athletes showed exceptional competitive spirit as they faced off against their opponents on the field. Fast pitches and quick action from our team overwhelmed Austin with one run in the bottom of the first inning and two more runs in the bottom of the fifth inning. We ended the game beating them 3 to 1.

Our Lady Patriots are ranked nationally.

When speaking with AL.com, Whitney Deaver, the head coach for softball, said, “We’ve got some really good players, but honestly, they are good leaders. That will determine our outcome in my opinion.”

Additionally, when asked about how the team’s dynamic contributes to their performance on the field, Megan Shurtz, number 21, stated, “We always do our very best to stay positive and cheer each other on! No one person is any more important than someone else, whether they’re a starter or not. We win as a team, and we lose as one, too.”

With a talented group of players, from home-run record-breakers to all-state picks, our Patriots are sure to have a promising season.

Go, Lady Patriots!
