Science Challenge 2022

A 4th grader from Heritage looks through a microscope with curiosity. This is the first time kids were able to participate in this event virtually. Kathryn Teare said that she hopes that the in-person event will be more effective because the kids ”can ask questions and do hands-on activities.”

In early April, Bob Jones High School hosted the second annual Science Challenge. The event included kids from 3rd-5th grade. 105 kids within the Madison City School system entered activities such as DNA extraction. Stethoscopes, and different types of contests. “We’re hoping that the exposure to science will peak their interests,” said Kathryn Teare.

The event was organized by The Science Academy. The group teaches students about science every two weeks. The sciences they teach include physics, chemistry, astronomy, anatomy, and health science. The event was invented by two junior students Puja and Neha Chopade.  “We participated in a lot of math and chess tournaments, but we didn’t see anything like that for science. We wanted to fill the gap,” Puja said.
