On May 2nd, 2025, members of the Senior class departed the school and made their way to Six Flags in Georgia. This was the big trip the students had been waiting for all year, one last hoo-rah before finals and graduation.
The day started with a Chick-Fil-A breakfast, followed by the senior slideshow; then we departed the school around 1:30 pm. It was a long drive, about 4 hours, but it felt so much longer. Many of the buses stayed pretty quiet with minimal conversations, but my bus, Girl Bus 1, decided it would be fun to do karaoke. It was entertaining to say the least.
We finally arrived at Six Flags around 6:30 pm and everyone was excited. We weren’t the only school there, James Clemens was there as well as some Georgia high schools. Everyone made their way to the park entrance, where we were let in at around 7 pm. The staff were super friendly and presented us with special grad night lanyards when we walked in. There was a DJ playing music and Bugs Bunny dressed in a cap and gown that everyone got photos with. After the group photo with Bugs Bunny, it was time to hit the rides.
Dinner opened up at 8pm and ran to 11pm. There was an open buffet with hot dogs, chicken tenders, mac and cheese, and many other foods. Everyone got their fair share of food, and there was ice cream up for grabs as well.
While the weather was nice for most of the trip, there was about a 30 minute period around 9:30 pm where it was raining pretty hard. Everyone ran to take shelter under something to remain dry and wait the rain out. Once the rain finally let up, everybody ran to get in line for rides since most of them were abandoned in an attempt to stay dry. We did have to wait for the ride attendants to test the rides for safety measures, but after that, all things were back up and running.
Unfortunately, the fun did have to end eventually, and everyone was to start heading back to the buses at 1 am. It took a while for everyone to arrive back, and we ended up departing around 2 am. This time all the students had the same idea- get some sleep. We had been at the park for roughly six hours, and we were all exhausted.
We arrived back at school around 4:45 am, and everyone left to get to their cars and go home. Overall, it was a super fun trip, and it was definitely worth it. Thank you to Mrs. Van Dam for letting us go on this trip, and thank you to everyone who works at Six Flags who helped make the day amazing.
I wasn’t the only one who enjoyed it. Other students shared their reviews as well:
“It was a fun experience since I got to spend time with my friends away from school,” said Sheimi Rosado-Davila.
“It was a thrilling experience for everyone. My favorite ride was ‘The Great American Scream Machine’ because of the speed,” said Blake King.
“It was my first time riding real roller coasters, and I couldn’t think of a better crowd to do it with,” said Sofia Chanes-Peralta.
(Thank you as well to everyone who submitted photos for this article.)
