BJHS Track: A Family

BJHS Track: A Family

Janiya Foster, Writer

Track is not just a sport; track is a job. You are on that track to do nothing but beat time. Becoming an exceptional athlete is not easy. You’ll always have some difficulties with dealing with what you have to do, but anything is possible when you put your mind to it. Track has never been a easy sport for me. It’s easy to get hurt, and the potential for over extending is great. One thing that is always true is that I have the support of my teammates. I spoke to head coach Brad Jefferson, athlete Promise Brown, and spectators Dani Biddix & Malika Harry about this environment of support.

Since Coach Jefferson was named the track head coach, his dream has been not just to improve and prosper as a team but also a “family.”

Promise Brown has been an athlete for the Bob Jones Track team since the 7th grade. She said  that she loves what she has done and accomplished on the team. Making it to state has been everything to her since the first time she made it.

The family extends beyond athletes. Being a spectator for the Bob Jones track team is “fun and a adventure.” Both Dani Biddix and Malika Harry have been with Coach Jefferson and the team for years and created a bond that is “the strongest and most non-understanding ever.”

Everyone around the team loves each other and appreciates their “family.” This helps our athletes to excel both on the track and in life.
