“So I should just leave right now and go… open a bakery, right? Right, good.” Nostalgic and quirky, Katherine “Katee” Tidwell has her life-sights set on cupcakes. Only 17, she bakes for any and all occasions. She bakes for friends’ birthdays, holidays, school events, church events, non-event events like… days she just feels happy.
Her dream was born while helping a friend bake. Katee was basically the gopher and gathered the ingredients. She took it upon herself to learn how to bake and quickly surpassed her friend in skill and commitment to the craft.
Katee’s first paying gig was the school-wide Poetry Out Loud competition. “Katee’s cupcakes are better and healthier than Gigi’s,” said Mrs. Panagos, who commissioned Katee for the event. “I was also impressed with her presentation. The cupcakes looked perfect, and she had them packaged nicely.”
Having tasted what her future might be like being paid to do what she loves, Katee, ever the dreamer, started planning what her bakery will look like years down the road. She is certain to bring her quirk to the design.
