It’s getting close to Christmas, so it’s that time of year when everyone’s generosity is kicked into hyper-drive. Tons of organizations start taking up donations to help those who need it, and of course, Bob Jones is helping to give.
Mrs. Clough, a Spanish teacher, and her classes are buying, decorating, and shipping boxes to Guatemala. This wonderful opportunity for BJHS students started 12 years ago when Homer Wilson enlisted help from schools around the area.
“Each year the Bob Jones kids really step up to the plate and usually donate between 250-300 boxes for the project. The students really like putting together the boxes and shopping for them,” claims Mrs. Clough.
Each student also has to test out his or her Spanish skills by writing a letter to the receiving child and puts it in the box. In this letter the students wish the children a wonderful holiday season, and gives them the opportunity to realize just how lucky they are to live the way they do.
As a teacher Ms. Clough is proud of her students, “It is very heart warming. I’m always proud to see the number of boxes being shipped out of our school.”
The Friends of the Children organization reached Mrs. Clough to inform her that Bob Jones gives some of the largest collections of gifts in the state.
