Archery or Plague? That is the True Question

Bob Jones High School is not new to cross-curricular activities, and today they took another stride forward. 9th Grade English students were given the opportunity to participate in Shakespeare Day.

Students participated in common Elizabethan games and entertainment, such as sword-fighting and archery. They viewed John Campbell shifting colorfully through different emotions to convey the importance of interpretation. Together they learned and practiced a short dance and later learned about the 16th century plague and the erroneous theories behind it.

English teacher John Campbell said that Shakespeare Day allows students to do “more than read but enjoy the experience and the emotion of literature.”

From freshman year to graduation day all students will be exposed to Shakespeare’s memorable works; it’s nice to see students outside of the classroom doing more than reading the text and actually becoming a part of it.
