Bob Jones is full of living legends. Whether it’s the students or the teachers themselves, every single person leaves his or her mark on our school. After this year Bob Jones is losing seven legends that have helped make our school what it is today. These legends include Mrs. Priest, Mrs. Krell, Mrs. Boggs, Mrs. Bettie Parker, Mr. Thorton, Mr. Seeley, and last but definitely not least, Mrs. Wiggins.

Four score and seven years ago, Mrs. Wiggins – the paragon of teaching – laid her eyes on our school. Since then, Mrs. Wiggins has blessed each and every student by her presence and has taught them her vast knowledge of not only the English language, but also the world itself.  She has also taught them a thing or two about behavior.

A recently graduated senior (Jeb Bushey) reflects on his time in her class and says, “One of my favorite teachers ever! [That] Class was always a blast!”

Junior Katherine Reardon said, “She had one of the best senses of humor that I had ever encountered in a teacher, especially her alternate ending for Ethan Frome.”

Junior Thomas Harper agreed.  “Mrs. Wiggins taught me to laugh at myself and learn from my mistakes.”

The mark of a true teacher not only comes from her ability to teach academics, but also her ability to teach and instill good habits and long-lasting life lessons on her students. Mrs. Wiggins not only did this, but she was also generally a funny and pleasant person to be around. LouAnn Crosby, a junior who was in her class the previous year gave us her favorite quote (or Wigginism) from Mrs. Wiggins: “You can’t fling a cat without hitting a Wal-Mart.” She also proceeded to share her favorite memory from that class, which was on the first day she gave them the “Run down” on what would happen in the case of a code red. The plan consisted of charging the intruder with desks and throwing textbooks at him until he’s unconscious.

It’s amazing that the things that can make lasting impressions on students can be as simple as humorous anecdotes or silly sayings. Mrs. Wiggins is a master of this art.
