Do you like to help animals?  Then you need to join the Friends of Rescue Student Council sponsored by Mrs. Coker.  There will be an informational meeting at 3:40 on Tuesday Sept. 15 in N217. Officers will be elected during the first meeting.

Friends of Rescue only works with cats and dogs, but there are so many animals that need help.  Approximately 2.7 million animals are euthanized each year.

When you join Friends of Rescue Student Council, you will help Huntsville, Athens, and Scottsboro animal shelters.  Mrs. Coker said, “The shelters around north Alabama stay FULL, which means animals die for no reason.”

The club will be using social media to spotlight animals that need to be adopted. Students will also have a chance to volunteer at some of the shelters. If students and their families want to foster an animal until it is adopted, they can as long as the parents fill out the foster animal application.  Friends of Rescue will provide everything needed for a foster home so all donations will be appreciated.

Mrs. Coker said, “I am looking at the possibility of planning a field trip to the shelter and a FOR Friday Event, but any other time (students) will need their own transportation or be able to arrange a ride with someone else on the council.”

FOR may bring in animals to some of the meetings, but only the kids and parents who filled the waiver out will be able to interact with these animals.

See Mrs. Coker for any more info or visit FOR’s Facebook page.
