Asking Someone to Homecoming

Masi Barnes, Writer

It’s that time again, when your Instagram feed is filled with couples posing with posters and balloons galore, HOMECOMING.

With exactly 17 days until the homecoming dance time is ticking to find the perfect date and ask them in the perfect way.

Two girls who don’t have to worry about finding a date anymore are Paige Fisher and Emily McDowell, both Bob Jones Seniors.

Paige Fisher was actually asked twice by the same guy, Tucker Walters. The first time he was just insuring she would say yes for the real thing. He then got really creative and set up an Alice in Wonderland themed table in her front yard complete with her favorite Starbucks drink and Gigi’s cupcake. He was also dressed up as the white rabbit and held a clock poster that read ‘Homecoming with Me?’ When asked about her experience Paige said “Even though it wasn’t super elaborate I thought it was perfect for me, I’m also glad he did it at my houseĀ and not in front of an audience.”

Emily McDowell actually took the initiative and asked her date, Caleb Tollison to homecoming. She tied a balloon to his car and then went to his house and set up more balloons all with little notes attached with the reasons she wanted to go to homecoming with him. Then she had a Pokemon ball made and inside was a miniature replica of her date.

So what are the secrets to the perfect homecoming proposal? 1) Ask before the big proposal, especially if you are planning on having an audience. You don’t want to be shot down in front of half the school or put pressure on the person you’re asking. 2) If you’re having trouble coming up with a cute idea search on Pinterest. There are tons of adorable ideas for guys and girls on there. 3) Have a friend take pictures of the proposal to make sure you have the perfect Instagram worthy snapshot.

Now, go find that special someone and get your date to homecoming!
