HoCo: The Locomotion of the Homecoming Parade

HoCo: The Locomotion of the Homecoming Parade

William Spanier, Writer

It’s that time of year again! Homecoming is, well, coming! One of the many exciting things that happen during this festive event is the annual Homecoming parade. The parade will be on September 22nd at 5:30. It will begin at Portal Lane and end at Bob Jones High School.

When asked about the parade, many freshmen are excited about seeing the band, but there are some who are in it just for the candy; however, according to an informal student survey of freshmen, only 35% of the students who took the poll will be attending the Homecoming dance, and 63% are not sure or won’t be attending the parade. These feelings are understandable for freshmen.  Mrs. Panagos said that freshmen don’t drive yet and have to rely on parental or older friends to drive.

For students attending the parade, they can expect a good one. Ms. Thomas, our Band Director, said that the band will lead the parade followed by several floats that exhibit our Homecoming court, the football team, and of course, our school spirit. Many clubs will also march in the parade. She said it’s nice to see the school participate in a community event and show off our accomplishments.

Bob Jones has a fantastic football team, with only one loss so far in their season, a stellar band that recently dominated the competition at an event in Hendersonville, and an extremely tight group of students who have worked together to assemble their floats and organize these events.

Many band students are also pumped up for the parade. Trumpet player Caleb Smith said that he is excited to play loud and proud and help represent our school’s band and get people excited over the big game against Florence and of course, the dance.

As you know each grade is going to showcase a float that was made by their grade. Alex Clark, a senior on the Homecoming court and SGA, said that the floats are “going to be awesome.” Members of SGA will be on grade-level floats relating to the theme of “Backyard Barbecue.”

This Homecoming parade is going to be a fun experience for everybody, even if you won’t be going to the dance. More information about Homecoming can be found on the BJHS Homecoming web page
