Destination Imagination Regional Competition

Saturday, February 25th, Destination Imagination had its annual Regional tournament at Bob Jones High School. Destination Imagination (DI) is a club where elementary, middle, and high schoolers form teams of seven or fewer students and compete in challenges that involve creative and innovative skills.

Each team chooses a central challenge which they understand and work on all year. Then, they are given an instant challenge at the competition. Instant challenges are left secret until the competition. They could be either technical, improvisational, or both. Teams usually have roughly eight minutes to solve these challenges.

There were four teams from Bob Jones competing in the regional competition, and all four went home with blue ribbons.

DI veteran and senior Paige Bounds said, “It was super exciting and I was super glad we won. Before the competition, we were almost not expecting it [winning] because everything got done last minute.”

DI first timer and junior Ella Waddell said, “I felt like it could have been a bit more organized because I never knew what was going on, but I enjoyed the instant challenge, and even though we had some trouble with our show, I still loved performing and I’m happy we made it through.”

The Bob Jones teams that competed were “Rock Bottom Carpets,” who competed in the Improv challenge, “Upon the Back of the 5th of May,” who competed in the scientific challenge, “The Nest,” who competed in the Technical challenge, and “Feminine Anemone Enemies,” who competed in the Fine Arts challenge.

“[The competition was] super fun!” Paige Bounds said. “I really missed doing DI.”

All of the teams will be moving on to state, and hopefully, they will all make it to Globals, the final competition
