Stars and Stripes is a Q&A series featuring the students and staff of Bob Jones High School.
Ms. Worley. pre-AP 10 and AP Lang teacher, loves scary movies.
What’s your relationship with the horror genre?
It is my absolute favorite kind of movie. I was terrified of them as a kid, but I grew to love and appreciate them as an adult. I think of them as a rollercoaster ride without being in danger of any kind.
What makes a great scary movie?
Characters that you actually care about because if you do not care about them, there are no stakes when bad things happen.
What are some movies that you recommend for students’ Halloween viewing?
You cannot go wrong with the OG Halloween (1978). A more recent pick is Cobweb (2023) because it has such a great autumnal atmosphere.
What are the worst scary movies that you’ve ever seen?
“Worst” as in just a bad movie would be Jack-O (1995). “Worst” as in the scariest…Sinister (2012) and Terrified (2017) (Not to be confused with Terrifier).
What are your favorite scary movie villains, antagonists, monsters, etc.?
Michael Myers from the Halloween franchise (as long as we don’t count those terrible Rob Zombie abominations). I LOVE vampires and my favorite is Fright Night (1985) with Lost Boys (1987) as a close second.
What’s your Halloween costume this year?
I’m Michael Myers from Halloween II (1981) today.
