SmashBurger is a new burger place in town. Forbes Magazine listed the chain as one of the most promising companies, and it has been met with a solid customer base in Madison. The business believes that hand-smashing the meat makes a better, more flavorful burger. Located at 8135 Hwy 72 West, SmashBurger has the environment right. When you walk in, it’s clean, and the employees are friendly.
The menu offers a variety of burgers, chicken sandwiches, salads, and fries with different kinds of toppings; however, my order was messed up two times, and it took a long time to get the food. Maybe the service will improve as the staff falls into a regular rhythm.
The Classic Smash Burger, topped with American cheese, lettuce, tomato, ketchup, onion, pickle, and smash sauce, was mediocre. It tasted just like a burger one could get anywhere else, and most likely for a cheaper price.
The real star was the fries. The smash fries, which are tossed with rosemary, olive oil, and garlic, were delicious, and there is no other place in Madison that offers that kind of seasoning on fries. Smash Burger also offers fries topped with gravy, Cajun fries, and sweet potato fries.
Consumers should go to SmashBurger for the unique kinds of fries or for the “create your own burger” option, which looked much more promising than some of the pre-made burger options.
