Nationally known Corey Smith performed at the Lincoln County fair last
weekend. As to what genre Smith is categorized in, he claims to be “an alternative,
country-ish singer.” This version of a laid back version of country music with lyrics
full of bad life decisions makes him quite popular in the South.
The Lincoln County fair happens yearly near Fayetteville, Tennessee as
dozens of temporary thrill seekers from Alabama, Tennessee, Georgia and their
surrounding states. The atmosphere is a dream for a laid back singer like Corey
Smith as families to teenagers to bachelors come to listen to the music that sounds
so much like the lives of so many who listen.
After a great warm up performance by Florida Georgia line, the mood was
right on the last day of the fair for a performance by the one so many Southerners
looks to for mediation and celebration. Corey brought a fantastic life to the small
town atmosphere at the fair. Singing lyrics that effect so many, Smith sang hit after
hit, such as “21” and “If I Could Do it Again.” Smith also sung bits and pieces of other
artists’ work such as “Free Bird” and “It’s a Great Day to Be Alive.” His performance
has the fans begging for more as he disappeared off the stage. The crowd wanted an
encore of his famous song that deals with ridiculing corrupt police officers. But
Smith, humbly and justly, denied the fans’ requests knowing the environment at the
fair wasn’t suited for the vernacular. “I want it to be known this is no one’s decision
but my own. This is a family event and atmosphere. If you want to hear it, come to a
bar. Overall, Corey Smith put on a great performance to his devoted fans, and did
it all with Southern Gentleman Class.
