G.O.O.D. Music recently released their collaborative studio album Cruel Summer. Appearances included Pusha T, Common, Big Sean, Kid Cudi, and John Legend. 2 Chainz, the hottest new hip hop artist in town, also made a statement in this impressive album headed by none other than Kanye West.
The album’s first single, Mercy, which was co-written by West, featured rappers Big Sean, 2 Chainz, and Pusha T. Other singles that were released included Cold (featuring renowned disc jockey, DJ Khaled), and New God Flow. Clique, the last single released, featured the boss of the hip hop industry, Jay Z, or Jefe (Spanish for boss), as he likes to call himself.
Overall, Cruel Summer was an amazing album with a little bit of holes. There were only twelve songs, a third of which were already released. G.O.O.D. Music members such as Mos Def and Mr. Hudson were not even featured, making the album devoid of all the G.O.O.D. members. Kanye West, the captain of this team, took the initiative to let some of the other artists get more shine. So for any fan of West who wanted to hear more from him probably did not get the outcome they wanted from West on this album. The only benefit of receiving an “incomplete” album is maybe fans can look forward to more focused songs with more eye popping beats in the mere future by G.O.O.D. Music.
As the new generation and era has taken off, the rap industry has been accused of producing trashy, violent/drug filled, demeaning music. However, the best innovative/creative producer in the game, Kanye West, has proven that his team does not fit the criteria for these accusations. G.O.O.D. delivered in each song, containing substance in their music unlike other labels such as YMCMB. Lyrics in these songs pertained to subjects such as relationships, religion, the current election, and affirmation of who has the best label with the best music. That question was easily answered.
So move over YMCMB, MMG, and any other groups that want to battle. G.O.O.D. Music is the apparent frontrunner, and with the addition of 2 Chainz, G.O.O.D. is truuuly, the best group in the game. They can easily be compared to the 1992 Dream Team. Any team that tried to match up was indeed no competition.
Is Summer Really Over?
