It’s that month when everyone wears pink and walks long miles of marathons to support people who have breast cancer. For years, researchers have been working on the cancer to search for a cure and prevention according to The Breast Cancer Research Foundation.
Survivors are true heroes that kept going strong just like Shelia Bradly, who is a mother and an aunt. Her niece is Lauren Askins, a junior that goes to Bob Jones High School. Lauren was one of the many reasons for Shelia to stay strong during her years of treatment.
Her opinion on breast cancer research pointed out the importance of awareness programs: “I think breast cancer is more researched than any other cancer because of all the awareness and programs that have been set up over the years.”
Fundraisers play a vital role in research funding. A more recently added fundraiser is the BraVo, which is a very unique way to commemorate and gather money by painting bras.
Many people who have been touched by breast cancer have a chance to show everyone that BraVo is a great way to support the foundation and the patients. Anyone can do it, and at the same time, it’s a great way for people to come together and share their creativity.
Here at Bob Jones High School, students in Mrs. Norton’s Art class II took on the challenge of painting on bras. Many of the students submitted playful designs while others took a more abstract approach. The bras will be auctioned off at The Lowe Mill Art & Entertainment in Huntsville AL on October 26th.
All of the beautifully painted bras profits will go toward a great cause.
