There’s no secret that Bob Jones holds many talented artists, but it was proven when 4 out of the 25 winners at the Shelby County Arts Council- Montevallo Statewide Juried Art Show were Patriots. There were over 200 entries from high schools and private art academies from across the state of Alabama. Bob Jones was the only school with multiple winners.
Student Nick Monroe won Overall Best of Show for “Flightless” taking home a grand prize including $500 dollars, “I was rather surprised I guess, I didn’t really know what to expect, and when I got there, there was a lot of really good work displayed.” He plans on putting the prize money towards college.
Best in Show – Watercolor went to student Jake Sims for “Juxtaposed Abstraction” with a prize including $100. “I was surprised. I didn’t really think my piece was all that great when I walked into the gallery and saw everyone else’s,” Jake explained. He plans on attending art school and making a career out of art. Honorable mentions in the drawing category went to Olivia Skillern and Kasey Benesh.
Until December 8th, the show will continue to hang at the Shelby County Arts Council in Columbiana and will move to the University of Montevallo where it will hang in the art gallery. Congratulations to the winners and participants!
