There’s a quaint, little store in the Madison Downtown district that will have you craving some delightful sweets. Adorned with paintings of candy corn and lollipops, the Whistle Stop Sweet Shop sells a multitude of mouthwatering fudge, candy, gelato, coffee and holiday baskets that will always satisfy your sweet tooth.

On November 24, 2012, Lynn Crumbly opened the doors to her dream. After moving to the Madison Historical district, she always saw this little store in the downtown area. After having a shop previously in the 1990s, she thought it would be “a good mix” to open up a sweet shop in the ever-developing area.

The doors open every week, Tuesday through Friday, from 10:00 in the morning to 5:00 at night. If you attend school you better hurry up and get over there before they close their doors.

The school has been an active supporter in the sales and advertising of the shop. At the beginning of the year, Mrs. Thaxton had a great idea to give all the Bob Jones staff a little gift bag with the store’s goodies inside. She decided to use the goodies from Whistle Stop Sweet Shop because it is a newer store in Madison and she thought it would be a great idea to support and advertise them. She said, “We believe in supporting Madison first, if we are going to ask them to support us in all we do at BJ.”

Students and the community rave about the products. Emily Bohatch, a Bob Jones senior, claims, “If I had money, I would be there all the time. It’s a chocolate addict’s paradise!”

Trevor Thomas, a senior, thought the atmosphere was “calm. Everyone was friendly; even the customers.”

The sweets would make great gifts for the holidays. During Christmas and Valentine’s Day, friends and family would love to have a sweet bite of warm fudge or the cool, savory taste of homemade gelato.

From talking to students, their staff, and the community, the overall favorites seem to be the peanut butter chocolate fudge, the gelato, the chocolate covered caramel apple, the peanut brittle, and the chocolate covered Oreos.
