After a seven-year hiatus from music, Justin Timberlake exploded back into the music scene with the 20/20 Experience Part 1 album. Six months later, Timberlake released the second part of the album, called 20/20 Experience Part 2.
In total, there are eleven (thirteen if you get the Target deluxe edition) glorious tracks, totaling up to a wonderful seventy-four (eighty-three counting the two bonus tracks) minutes of pure vocal and instrumental bliss, all executed wonderfully by the wonderful Justin Timberlake. The album is described by Noah Kahan of Broadway World as “bold, ambitious, and beautiful,” yet more “aggressive” than its predecessor.
Timberlake pushed out two singles prior to the release of this album, called “Take Back the Night” and “TKO.” ” Take Back the Night” is an upbeat and feel-good song that features a lovely blend of disco and R&B, while “TKO” boasts a more serious sound. The whole tone of the album is different from the first part of the 20/20 Experience, in that it delivers songs with a darker, more sensual take on love, while the first seemed to present a lighter view of romance.
Wanting to share my love for this album and my love of Mr. Timberlake himself, I was referred by Mrs. Panagos to Mrs. Thaxton, a huge Justin Timberlake fan. I rushed off to the media center to get her opinion. My biggest question, of course, was what she thought about the album. We immediately connected, and she commented how she loved how “innovative” Timberlake was and how he’s always pushing the boundaries of music—in a good way.
I moved on and went to get the opinions of my fellow classmates. Kayla Daigle, a Bob Jones senior, was the first person I asked about 20/20 Experience Part 2. She loves the album, stating that it is the “bee’s knees.” I could not agree with her more. Upon further investigation, I realized not many people in my circle of friends had listened to the album all the way through.
Of course, the main complaint about this album is its length. The album is 74 minutes long, and many people say the songs are a bit too long. This is understandable; many people are used to the average three to four minute songs commonly heard on the radio, as opposed to this album’s average song-length of five to seven minutes, with an eleven minute outro.
Overall, The 20/20 Experience Part 2 is a wonderful album, which we have come to expect of Justin Timberlake. I can definitely recommend picking up a copy, especially from Target, as the company exclusively carries the deluxe edition, which contains two more songs. Who would not want those two extra songs from Justin Timberlake?
