There are many ways people and businesses use social networking to have fun and connect with others. People use social networks in so many ways because they has became an essential part of our lives. The use of social networking has greatly expanded over the years, and the technology is only getting better. However, most people use social media as a tool for extra entertainment.

“I use it mainly because I want to get to know people I don’t see that often, because I love being social,” explains Darian Haynes, who is 17. He also states that Instagram is his favorite social media site because he can “follow all the cute girls without feeling like a creep.”

Of course, there is nothing wrong with adding/following plenty of people you don’t know (though you should not do this in real life). “I love the fact that I can add hundreds or thousands of people I don’t know simply because I like looking at all of the different people,” Amani Black said.  There are plenty of different social media sites out there for people, and they are mainly used for the same purpose: finding and connecting with old friends or even strangers.

Social media sites are not just used by people for entertainment; they are also used in business. According to 72% of a business’s Twitter followers are more likely to buy products from the company. Most businesses, like Target, Nike, and Kohl’s, use social media sites to network to the customers. They do it to get involved with their specific audiences and give customers updates on what they want to hear. Some companies, like Zoe’s Kitchen, La Placita, and Lime Fresh Mexican Cantina, even offer special discountss or deals to people who follow their companies on Instagram or check in their establishments on Foursquare.

“I love the fact that certain restaurants give me discounts just for checking into the place on Foursquare; it drives me to go to the place more often than I usually would go,” Darian points out.

The fact of the matter is social media is not just a big waste of time It is a way for people to connect with others.
