The tickets sold out quickly for the 2CELLOS performance. On October 25th, two Croatians, the members of a group called 2CELLOS, performed at the Von Braun Center Concert Hall. Luka Sulic and Stjepan Hauser, the dynamic duo behind 2CELLOS, are known for their exceptional skills as cellists. They smash the walls that separate the different genres of music.
The two members have been playing the cello since their childhoods, and they have become a global sensation. 2CELLOS covered Michael Jackson’s “Smooth Criminal,” and became a huge viral sensation. Their memorable cover earned the duo a record deal with Sony Masterworks and an invitation to join Elton John on his worldwide tour. Elton John even said, “Go and see them live, because it really is astonishing!”
Their cover of “Smooth Criminal” was the first instrumental act to ever perform on the hugely popular television series Glee. This is just one of the many notable venues at which the cellists have performed. Hauser, in fact, has performed twice for Prince Charles: once in Buckingham, and another time at St. James’s Palace. 2CELLOS has been touring all over the world, playing a wide variety of songs. Some of the songs they play are deeply melancholic, while others are up-tempo and energetic.
On their world tour, they managed to stop by the VBC to give Huntsville the show of a lifetime on October 25th.
The performance was breath-taking. Lesley Ellen, a local fan of 2CELLOS, commented, “They were amazing! I had no idea a cello could make that kind of sound!” On October 25th, Hauser and Sulic played many covers of popular songs, including “Viva la Vida,” “Back in Black,” and “Smooth Criminal.”
2CELLOS seemed like they were radiating happiness. They were always smiling and their energy spread to the audience. The audience was so impressed that at least half of the time it was standing and clapping. In between songs the members of 2CELLOS talked about how nice the South is and how great the audience was. Whether or not they were trying to flatter the audience is debatable, but the crowd was noticeably more energetic afterward.
I cannot say enough how wonderfully Stjepan Hauser and Luka Sulic played. I felt privileged to be graced with their music. I strongly recommend visiting their website or their YouTube channel and listening to their music.
