Infinity Ward recently added another title to its collection: Call of Duty: Ghosts. Infinity Ward, a successful video game franchise, pushed out its new game on November 5th, for PC, Wii U, Playstation 3, and Xbox 360, as well as on Xbox One and Playstation 4 on their respective launch dates.
Ghosts, like its CoD predecessors, features a campaign and a multiplayer mode. As with most CoD games, the multiplayer feature is what everyone is excited for. IGN reports that multiplayer has received a number of new game modes, along with a new perk system and a new unlock system.
A few of the new game modes announced were Search and Rescue, Cranked, Blitz, Squads, and Extinction. The first three of these five game modes are much like those CoD fans have already seen, but the last two of these five are unlike anything CoD fans have come to expect of Infinity Ward.
Search and Rescue, a new spin on the classic Search and Destroy mode, allows players to be revived by teammates. In Search and Destroy, once a player was killed, he was out for the round.
Cranked is a fast-paced kill-to-survive game mode that requires players to get kills within thirty seconds of each other. If the player fails so get a kill within 30 seconds, he dies and the timer is reset.
Blitz is a mode like Capture the Flag, but instead of flags, each team has a “goal.” Whichever team scores the most touches on the other team’s goal wins.
IGN has described the two completely new game modes, Squads and Extinction, in much detail.
Squads allows players to form a squad of soldiers to play solo or online.
Extinction puts four players in a post-apocalyptic world in which they must survive against aliens. Those who have followed the CoD series may find this to be reminiscent the Zombies game mode found on previous renditions of CoD. Unlike the Zombies game mode, however, the new Extinction game mode features different classes, which can be upgraded throughout the game. It will feature more equipment than the Zombies game mode did.
Chandler Beatty, a Bob Jones junior who ended up coming to school, said “I would’ve stayed home to play the game.” He is most excited about the Extinction game mode.
Marcus Hampton, a Bob Jones junior, stated he wasn’t all too excited for “another rage-inducing Call of Duty game,” but then went on to say that he was at least excited for the Extinction game mode.
Adam Hallman, who is also a Bob Jones junior, is looking forward to playing Call of Duty: Ghosts, commenting that he found the Squads game mode to look particularly interesting.
Ben Ewing, a Bob Jones senior, said that he feels Call of Duty is moving away from its roots with this game, moving toward science-fiction. However, Kayla Daigle, a Bob Jones senior, argues that the series is broadening its horizons, looking to satisfy a wider audience.
Many social media sites have been closely covering the game’s release. Some are going as far to say that this is the most anticipated game in the Call of Duty series. Will Ghosts live up to its hype or will it be another run-of-the-mill FPS game?
