Undertale: Definitely NOT Overrated
March 11, 2016
Yes. Undertale. I would not have believed it had I not played it myself. Allow me to be the first one (to write an article) to say that Undertale is one of my favorite new-old games ever (alongside Broforce). This here is a story driven heavily by characters, making this a unique and, dare I say, one of the greatest Indie RPG’s I’ve ever come to experience.
You can run the Pacifist route (The only one for me) where you befriend bosses and basic enemies. You can choose the Extermination route where everything in your path meets a grisly end at point of your dagger. Or Neutral route, which is the combination of the two. Meet Flowey, a psychotic flower who’s determined to reset the game over and over for it’s own amusement. Meet Sans, a lazy skeleton who can see into the multiverses where you killed all his friends. There are so many other characters to meet and befriend/kill and the basis of the story isn’t bad either.
The general story is that Humans and Monsters once shared the surface world together. One day, a war between the two broke out and the humans won, banishing the monsters to the underground where the story takes place. There are moments in the game where you feel true heartache at your own decisions. For example, During the Extermination route, you fight Papyrus, the little brother of Sans. He is determined to capture you to gain access into an organization known as “the royal guard.” However, as his health weans, he is proven to believe in you, stating that “you can do better. Even if you don’t think so.” He is encouraging the player to go to the side of good even as you kill him.
Undertale is a great game, perhaps the best Indie game so far. I highly recommend you buy this game.
