Say Aloha to the Alola Region!

Back in February, Nintendo released a video showing the Pokémon games through the generations, ending with an announcement for the newest games in the series- Sun and Moon. While the majority of the trailer was showing how the games have evolved like our favorite monsters, and that there are still plenty of fans new and old, the end gave us a preview of people working on the future game. Other than the general release date (a vague “Holidays 2016”), very little was known about the game and theories began flying about the Internet faster than you can say ‘Pikachu!’

Just a few weeks ago, on May 10th, Nintendo catered to the public’s need for more knowledge about Sun and Moon with another trailer. This one gave us hungry fans more information for us to dissect. The new region’s name (the Alola region, which is undoubtedly based on Hawaii), the new starter Pokemon trio (Rowlet, Litten, and Popplio), and a peek at our two new legendary mascots for the games are what stand out amongst the rest of the video. Fans have also pointed out that this Kukui may be the Pokemon Professor of this region, as the Kukui tree is the state tree of Hawaii. (There is a running gag that the Pokemon Professors are named after various trees.)

Another thing fans are excited for is the character customization, a feature that many adored in Pokémon X and Y. While we’ve only seen that the player can change their character’s skin colors, it’s very liekly that we’ll be able to change their outfits, eye color, and hair as well.

The release date is now specified to November 18th for the USA, Australia, and Japan, and on November 23rd in Europe. Hopefully, more information will be revealed soon.
