Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild Really Takes Your Breath Away
March 10, 2017
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild has been out for a week and it does not disappoint. Like many of the games in the Legend of Zelda franchise, there is very little to complain about. Nintendo has been producing games in this collection since the original in 1986 and shows no sign of stopping with the addition of Breath of the Wild in 2017.
The graphics follow those of Skyward Sword (2011), using vibrant colors. Just like Skyward Sword, Nintendo also carried the Stamina Gauge over into the new game. People either hate it or love it, as it determines what you can do with main character Link’s limited amount of stamina.
Not only are the game’s graphics beautiful, but it hits a place in your heart where nostalgia lies for long time players. The characters, events, and places are very similar and immediately recognizable to those of previous games. Even with this, you do not have to be a long time player to understand the story. The few hours of beginning gameplay tells enough to understand what is happening in the story.
The difficulty level of the game has been noted as one major difference found within the franchise. Everything can and will kill you. Because it is a vast open world game, you are capable of accidentally stumbling into areas too difficult for your level at the time. You are also capable of falling off the extensive amount of cliffs placed around the world. If you’re like me and catapulted Link off the cliff after the title sequence at the start of the game you would understand.
Weapons in the game can be lost and destroyed, increasing the level of difficulty. After a few uses, the weapons will break or you could be like my sister and accidentally fling the only weapon nearby off the cliff and into a pool of water.
Unlike previous Legend of Zelda games, Breath of the Wild is the first to have voice acting in the major scenes. Even though this has never been done before, it’s as if it fits perfectly.
The long wait for Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild was worth it and all games to come will most likely have the same feeling. Nintendo will continue to grab the attention of generations to come and keep long time players interested.
