Don’t Throw Away Your Shot to See Hamilton!

The popular broadway musical by Lin Manuel Miranda, Hamilton, is traveling and stopping in Birmingham, Alabama. If you want to see Alexander Hamilton in Birmingham, you have a few more days to do so. The showing of this musical is here for the Broadway in Birmingham series presented by the American Theater Guild. It’s currently showing at the BJCC Concert Hall until February 4th, 2023. 

According to AL.com, the musical has won 11 Tony Awards, a Grammy, and a Pulitzer Prize which makes it highly worthy to see. It uses hip-hop, pop, and R&B to retell the life of founding father, Alexander Hamilton. The musical’s story is about Hamilton’s involvement in the American Revolutionary War, his disputes with Aaron Burr, and his relationship with his wife, Elizabeth Schuyler. Other notable characters in the show include Angelica Schuyler, Peggy Schuyler, King George, George Washington, Marquis de Lafayette, Thomas Jefferson, James Madison, Philip Hamilton, Hercules Mulligan, James Madison, and more. 

This musical ended up taking Lin-Manuel Miranda seven years to write. According to Forbes.com, Lin-Manuel Miranda thought of making this musical after he read Ron Chernow’s biography about Alexander Hamilton and had an idea for a rap mixtape. He was then invited to the White House to perform a song from another musical he wrote, In The Heights, but instead played a song called Alexander Hamilton. He ended up getting a standing ovation and continued to work on developing the story for Hamilton.
