At Bob Jones, games are a pretty popular topic, and high schoolers across the US play more than anyone. According to the Pew Research Center, over 90% of teens in general play video games. At Bob Jones, the question right now it this: What kind of games do we really like?
A survey given to Bob Jones students asks what kind of games they like and why. The top answers I expected were shooter games, like COD, Fortnite, Overwatch- things like that, or action-adventure games. The highest answers were actually multiplayer and action-adventure games, so I had some idea of what people generally like!
Tessa Wingenter, a 9th grader at Bob Jones, talks about her interests in games, saying, “I love stretching my mind and creating a world without having to get up! I love the variety of relaxation, suspense, and fantasy aspects that make me stare in awe or jump out of my skin.” Her current favorite game is Minecraft, and it definitely fits with how she thinks of games! A few more games mentioned are Omori, Elden Ring, and even Solitaire!
Another 9th grader mentions how she just likes little games she can do when she is bored, like The Untitled Goose Game. “I literally just mess around in it. You get to be a goose and you bother people, what could be better?” she says, and it sounds like a cool thing to pass some time!
From the survey with over 30 responses, I can see that our students like playing games together, have a wide variety of games they play, and only 8.8% of people who took the survey don’t play video games.
So in summary, here at Bob Jones High School, there is a lot of variety when it comes to what people spend their free time on, but one of the things a large majority has in common is video games. Minecraft and Geometry Dash are two of the big repeating answers, and people are happy to play games with other people as well. I guess we game on in every way at Bob Jones!
