If you see more bookshelves in your social media posts today, it’s because it’s National Library Shelfie Day. Book lovers share their favorite books or the organization of their books in a cute or special way that’s meaningful to them. This day started in 2014 at the New York Public Library, and it continues to make the rounds each year on the fourth Wednesday of the month.
What does a book shelf say about someone? It can reflect their personal interests or goals, it can convey emotion or nostalgia, and it can also provide social commentary. Whether you organize your books neatly, colorfully, or messily, all shelves are welcome.
Public libraries encourage citizens to visit their local libraries to take their selfie. Gwinett County Library sharied, “The goal is not just to get people to take a photo and share it but to remind the masses that every local library has access to thousands of books for adults and children, fostering a love of learning and reading.”
Visit the BJ Media Center to take a selfie with your favorite books! You can also take a selfie and tag the Madison public library or even the BJHS library.
