The Bob Jones Indoor Winds bring the dead back to life with well-known classical music selections such as “Funeral March” by Frédéric Chopin, “Ode to Joy” by Ludwig van Beethoven, and “Battle of 1812” in their performance entitled Decomposers. You can experience this performance at their first competition on February 15, 2025, right here at Bob Jones in the main gym.
As the end of football approached, these students immediately started learning and perfecting their show for this ‘25 season. Some of their previous accomplishments were winning 2nd place at SCGC in 2024 and becoming SCGC/WGI A class champions in 2023, so there is pressure to develop an impressive show.
Freshman Javin White shared her goals included “learning how to become a better marcher, learning new skills, and allowing what I learn to aid me when I pursue leadership roles in the band in the future.” When our upperclassmen were asked what their goals were for the season, junior Mackenize Butler wanted “to improve my playing and being on time while senior Afton Reese wanted “to get through the season without surgery.”
Indoor winds create a more personal environment both for themselves and the audience, so it takes a lot of planning to make a memorable show. Ms. Thomas described what it takes to make a quality show: “It’s all about coordination of all the elements in terms of ‘who is the most important” and making sure that visually they’re also important, but also everyone else needs to be supporting that idea…but not too much, then they become a distraction. Musically, it’s that same as the fall.”
Check out the Indoor Winds competition performance on Saturday! Time TBD!
