Scary movies are by far my favorite genre, but it’s very hard to scare me. I usually find many scary movies to be quite humorous, but Mama definitely had me spooked. From the very beginning, the movie either had me sitting on the edge of my seat or hiding behind my hands.
The overall plot of the movie involves a woman named Edith (Mama). She jumped off of a cliff while running away from people that were trying to send her to a depression clinic, but she ends up dropping her baby as she races away. For many years, her soul searches for baby, but, instead, she ends up finding Victoria and Lilly–whose father has abandoned them in the woods. She takes care of them for five years and follows them to their new home when they are found and rescued. When Mama begins getting jealous of the love and affection between the girls and their new female guardian, she tries anything to get what she feels is hers – Victoria and Lilly.
I saw this movie twice over the weekend and wasn’t any less scared the second time around. I would definitely recommend this movie to anyone.
