Surely everyone has heard of the Brothers Grimm fairytale, Hansel and Gretel: a tale of a brother and sister, lost in the woods with no way home. They stumble upon a cottage made entirely out of candy. Little do they know, the cottage is owned by an evil witch, who kidnaps them and tries to fatten them up for eating. The two children end up overpowering the witch, and shove her into the oven, thus killing her.
This is certainly no fairytale. Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters takes place after the first witch killing, and into their story of how they became renown witch hunters. Their goal: to rid the world of evil witches and save the children.
At the beginning of the movie, Hansel and Gretel are asked to help find eleven missing children from a nearby town, which is no easy task. The town is out for blood, and is willing to crucify the most innocent citizens in order to get their children back.
Hansel and Gretel search the nearby woods and find out that there is more to the disappearances than they initially thought. The witches responsible for the missing children are gathering one child for each month of the year to sacrifice on the blood moon, a witch’s most sacred holiday.
Who knows if they find the children, you’ll just have to go see it.
“I always remembered reading the story of Hansel and Gretel and loved it. This movie really put a new twist on the classic story and impressed me.” Brian Cantrell, senior.
