Adrenaline: the reason most moviegoers go to see a horror flick. We crave the excitement, the blood rush, the terrifying thought of when the killer is going to pop out from the depths of the dark.
Coming from Adam Wingard, who also brought you V/H/S, brings you You’re Next; the newest horror movie to hit the big screen, though flawed, will have you guessing.
The movie sets up with the neighbors, giving the typical horror sex scene, followed by their frightening murder. It then transitions to the Davison family coming to their vacation home out in the remote depths of the forest. From the beginning, they hear noises in the house and are stopped from leaving by encouraging family members, but the next night the fun begins. Immediately, they are attacked while almost enjoying dinner. The hunters–the attackers–are decked out with a machete, an axe, some crossbows, and frighteningly white animal masks. Once people started to calm down and figure out what exactly is going on, they tried to fight back.
Though the beginning was rough, the acting was sub par, and the fake blood was obviously fake, the story line of this movie kept you guessing and on the edge of your seat. You never knew when an animal shaped mask will pop out of nowhere, or who exactly would be doing the killing. But, at the end, you will definitely sit back and say to yourself, “Wow! I was not expecting that…”
Melanie Brown (senior) shared her opinion, “[I] thought it was decent. [It] wasn’t the most mind blowing or frightening scary movie I’ve seen, but [it was] just enough to keep me on the edge of my seat. [My] favorite thing was the plot twists and things popping out.”
Throughout the movie, there were two amazing twists to the story that you will definitely have to keep your eye out for, and that will have you thinking, “No, you’re next!”
