Evangelion and the Movie Delay
January 23, 2021
Initially, a new film for the Neon Genesis Evangelion series, Thrice Upon a Time, was going to be released on January 23 of 2021, however, due to the pandemic, the release date has been pushed back. Thrice Upon a Time was going to be the last film for the Evangelion series and was initially delayed previously to this account. The creator, Hideki Anno, took on another project in 2015-16 and worked on the Shin Godzilla movie as a director during this time. After the project, the creation of the movie resumed, adding on another couple of years to make it. Recently, Japan has put itself in a new state of emergency, postponing the release date of this film even further.
To sum up Evangelion, for those who don’t know, it is an anime that takes place in a post-apocalyptic mech city that is under constant attacks by extraterrestrial beings that are called “angels.” Shinji, the main character, takes up the role of a protector of the world along with other kids who also were chosen to take on that role.
It is what you thought when I said that it involved mechs. The kids essentially fight in giant, specialized robots. However, despite the awesomeness of the mechs and robots, the show goes deeply into physiological themes that Anno implements himself. You wouldn’t watch it just for robots and sexy machines, but for the emotions that arise in the characters during the whole series.
The show isn’t too graphic (or at least that’s what I believe), but there is some not so kid-friendly content involved throughout the show. If you plan on watching this, do so without the presence of children…
