This January, hardcore group, Soul Search, released their new record entitled Nothing But a Nightmare. On the whole, the record approaches their already unique sound from a new direction, successfully developing a new sound, while maintaining integrity to their original one.
Local hardcore vocalist, Russell E. Rogers III commented, “Lyrically, the record is very dark and honest. It’s very deep, and it makes you think.”
The lyricist puts everything out on the line. He’s an open book, and many listeners will find his honesty inspiring.
Instrumentally, the songs have more metal influence than what is usually expected from Soul Search, but they pull it off well. Their guitar riffs have a wide spectrum from fast, thrashy riffs to groovy, fun riffs. The tones are perfect for the style of music that Soul Search had written. It’s dark and entrancing, and it keeps the listener on the edge of his seat.
From the eerie opening track to the climactic final track, the record is gripping. It entrances the listener and keeps them locked in– listening to it from the beginning to the end without pause.
