There is an ongoing argument about who created chili first and where such an event took place. According to whatscookingamerica.net, the first recipe for chili was made in the 17th century. Hundreds of years later, the people at Anaheim Chili on Cecil Ashburn Drive in Huntsville are still making the stew.
There are many different kinds of chili, like white, red, green and bean chili. At Anaheim Chili, all of these options are available, along with many more.
I chose the white chili. It came out piping hot, and contained white meat chicken, beans, oregano, cumin, garlic and it was garnished with cilantro. I chose mild spiciness, but you can also get medium and hot if you prefer a little extra or a little less heat. I also got a side of habanero corn bread, which was not as spicy as the name might suggest.
The chili and corn bread were absolutely delicious and flavorful. My only regret is that I was too full to order another bowl of a different type of chili.
I went at lunchtime on a Saturday, so they were pretty busy. However, my food, along with my peers’ food, was still brought out within 5 minutes of us ordering it. The staff were also very friendly as they served us.
The best thing about the restaurant is the price. A bowl of chili is $4.50, and you can also get a double bowl for $8. While chili is their specialty, they also offer chili dogs, wings, sandwiches and burgers.
Overall, Anaheim Chili is definitely a recommended place, and well worth the drive from Madison to get there. It is cheap, delicious, and welcoming.
