Mars rover Opportunity’s 15-year long journey has come to end. Opportunity arrived at Mars in January of 2004 and was originally supposed to only have a 90-day journey but shockingly lived on for 15 years. She was the rover to have discovered that there could have been ancient life and water on Mars long ago. Due to a serious storm on Mars, she stopped responding in June of 2018. The last message she sent was, “My battery is low and it is getting dark.” After many tries of waking her up, NASA made one last attempt by playing “I’ll Be Seeing You” by Billie Holiday. Opportunity has made huge impacts on Mars exploration and will be missed by many.
